I Could Have Died

I am grateful that I didn’t

My recent hospital stay was brief, but similar to most of my visits, health care professionals are left dumbfounded. I am typically left with more questions than answers.

We think it could be this or that?

and the best one is

I don’t know.

I appreciate the honesty when they admit they don’t know, but it disappoints me. I’d rather have an answer, good or bad.

What happened to me?

I developed a blood clot in my leg. How? No one knows. It runs from the back of my knee to halfway down my calf. It is at the junction of a major vein. If a blood clot enters a deep vein, it can lead to a deep vein thrombosis. If the blood clot loosens and makes its way to the lungs, it can be deadly.

I am grateful that it was located, and they began treatment immediately. However, it has been challenging to treat. At my last ultrasound, there was a slight decrease in its size.

How does it feel?

The area is painful. Sometimes it throbs and can swell. However, being on anticoagulants has been helpful.

What are the downsides?
