This is so true. I love how you related it to cycling.

…n often cycle in a straight line, but are afraid of turns. Isn’t this a reflection of life as well? We feel confident in making a beeline for our desired destination up ahead. The one we can see, yet, as soon as we’re shown a bend, we slow down. It’s what lies beyond that bend that makes us cautious.
